75 years ago today, directory WS Van Dyke, terminally sick with cancer and heart trouble, killed himself. Woody Van Dyke was a great director who had made many excellent and profitable movies.

He directed San Francisco, one of my favorites.
He served in World War One and was an active recruiter for the US Marine Corps during World War Two until he got sick.
