Giovanni Pastrone's Italian feature Cabiria was a popular spectacle which influenced filmmakers all over the world, including DW Griffith. It was set during the Second Punic War.

It ran for "7 Months on Broadway, New York City" and "10 Weeks in San Francisco."

This article mentions that the movie was popular with churches and religious societies and gave the example of Saint Vincent (Saint Vincent de Paul parish in Lincoln Park?) in Chicago, which had a benefit performance, accompanied by the church choir and a large orchestra.

The manager of the Palace Theater in Waterloo, Iowa submitted to the editors of Motography a program he distributed while the movie played at  his theater.

It was set during the Second Punic War.  Note that Sol Lesser, who had the states rights for California, later became a producer.  He made Harry Langdon's first movies.

Cabiria Unaffected by War -- August 8, 2014

Giovanni Pastrone's Italian feature Cabiria was a popular spectacle which influenced filmmakers all over the world, including DW Griffith. It was set during the Second Punic War. The image above shows a "Mammoth volcano scene."

 The movie introduced the strongman character Maciste, who went on to appear in many movies.

This article mentions that the war in Europe has not affected the production of prints with translated subtitles for the American market.  Italy did not enter the war until 1915.  Note that some scenes had two colors applied in "the Itala process."  Perhaps that was tinting and toning.
