Harold Lloyd's New Comedy for Pathe is "The Freshman" -- June 15, 2025

This Pathé ad tells about Harold Lloyd's next release, The Freshman. This would be one of his best features. 

I am surprised that I have not yet mentioned serial queen Allene Ray. Much of her work is lost, but I have seen bits and pieces.

When Harold got back to California, he would start making movies for Paramount release.

Meanwhile, Hot Water, from 1924 was still in wide release. The Lyric Theater in Tiffin, Ohio offered one free ticket for each discarded teakettle brought in by customers. He added Harold's head to eacy kettle and used them to spell out the word "HOT."

The OT Crawford Film Exchange Company in Saint Louis said "We can rent you every feature and good film the world produces, PATHE's 'LIFE OF CHRIST,' 'PARSIFAL,' 'BEN-HUR' and 'TWO ORPHANS' rented reasonable." 

Life and Passion of the Christ was a 1903 motion picture that is considered the first feature length story film. "Parsifal" was probably the 1903 Edison movie directed by Edwin S Porter. "Ben-Hur" may have been the 1907 Kalem one-reeler. The Two Orphans was a popular play that DW Griffith later adapted as Orphans of the Storm. So far I haven't found a reference to a film adaptation made in 1908 or before.

Baby Peggy starred in an adaption of "Hansel and Gretel." Universal also released a series based on Sidney Smith's comic strip The Gumps. I remember reading reprints of The Gumps in books and finding it ugly and unfunny.  I can usually understand old topical humor, but this was beyond me.  The movies were funny.  Poor Joe Murphy looked like Andy Gump.
