I was sad to learn that Valentina Cortese and Rip Torn have died.  I remember her best from Francois Truffaut's Day for Night.

I remember when I was a kid and I noticed Rip Torn's name in the credits of a television show or a movie.  I figured it had to be an assumed name.  Later I learned that he was born Elmore Torn, Jr in Texas.  I don't know how many movies I have seen him in, serious and not-so-serious.

Ivor Novello 125 -- January 15, 2018

I think I first learned about Ivor Novello in Truffaut's Hitchcock.  I thought, what a funny name.  Later I saw Blackmail.  Novello was good as the potential serial killer.  Later I learned that Ivor Novello was not his original name.  Later I learned that he was a songwriter and I knew some of his songs.  He was born 125 years ago today, on 15-January-1893.
