I was sad to learn that Donald Sutherland has died. My condolences to his family, friends and fans. He was great in more movies than I can count. I was surprised to see how many people loved Oddball, his character in Kelly's Heroes. In addition to Kelly's Heroes, I threw in posters for Phil Kaufman's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Bernardo Bertolucci's 1900, Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen and Alan J Pakula's Klute

1900 - May 1, 2017

Happy International Workers' Day to all.

I remember going to see Bernardo Bertolucci's 1900 in the theater.  It seemed strange to see Robert De Niro, Gérard Depardieu and Donald Sutherland in an Italian movie.  The story told of two boys born in 1901,  on the day that Verdi died.  One was the son of the landowner and the other was the son of a peasant.  They grew up friends, but after World War One, the new overseer was a Fascist, who made life terrible for the workers.  He got his after World War Two.  I would like to see it again.

In 1978, San Francisco director Phil Kaufman remade Don Siegel's 1956 science fiction classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams were the humans who were trying to figure out what was happening.
