This interesting series of ads appeared in the 04-September-1915 Moving Picture World. They are for a Vitagraph film called Mortmain, which has the story of a man with a transplanted hand that turns out to be evil.
What a great find! Those adverts are truly striking. I doubt many other people would have the same association but I immediately thought of this album cover.
I posted these awhile back on my Facebook page for lost horror films, as I too was struck by them. I think they would make a great shirt or poster! Mortmain is unfortunately a lost film, but it's based on a very bizarre book of the same title that's in the public domain, so easy to acquire, and well worth a read. I'm working on a chapter about Mortmain in my upcoming book on lost horror films.
Hi Kelly. I will look for your facebook group. A tee shirt. What a great idea. I found images of a couple of other ads for the movie, but they won't reproduce well.

ReplyDeleteHi silentsplease. I'm glad you liked the ads. They really caught my eye. I see why they reminded you of the album cover.

ReplyDeleteMy page is called Film Dirt, like the blog. There's a link from the blog page, if you'd like to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly. Thank you for that. I will find your page.
