Actor Marlon Brando was born 100 years ago today on 03-April-1924. I think I always knew he was a great actor, but I don't think I really understood how good he was until I was grown up. We went to see A Streetcar Named Desire at the Parkside Theater in San Francisco. I think this was the first time I saw him on a big screen. I was overwhelmed.
When he tried to enlist in the Army during World War Two, he was found to be 4-F because of an injury he sustained playing high school football.
In 1947, he appeared in the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Elia Kazan. Brando said he based his interpretation of Stanley Kowalski on Rocky Graziano.

Brando's first movie appearance was as a disabled soldier in an Army hospital in The Men. We saw that for the first time (the only time so far) at the Parkside.
