Sidney Poitier has died. He was a distinguished actor, director and activist who appeared in many excellent movies. in 1967, To Sir With Love, In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.  I particularly like In the Heat of the Night.

Sidney Poitier left his hand and  foot prints in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theater on 23-June-1967.

I love the scene from In The Heat of the Night when the mean old white man slapped Poitier and Poitier slapped him back.  If you get tired of the loop below, click on the image to pause it.

Sidney Poitier was one of the organizers of the 28-August-1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Two of the leading organizers, A Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, stand in front of the Lincoln Memorial, where Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr would soon deliver his speech, "I Have a Dream."

Graumans Chinese -- Sidney Poitier -- November 5, 2017

In July, 2012 we paid a return visit to Hollywood and Grauman's Chinese Theater.  Sid Grauman was a San Francisco showman who came to Los Angeles and built three major houses, the Million Dollar, the Egyptian, and the Chinese. The theater has hosted many film premieres, but is most famous for the hand and footprints (and hoofprints and nose prints and other types of prints) in the forecourt.

Sidney Poitier left his hand and  foot prints in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese on 23-June-1967.  Poitier was a distinguished actor who appeared in a bunch of movies in 1967, To Sir With Love, In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.  I particularly like In the Heat of the Night.
