Two-Reel Comedies of the Familiar Drew Type -- May 11, 2019

Moving Picture World, 03-May-1919
Sidney Drew starred in the Mr and Mrs Sidney Drew comedies with his first wife, Gladys Rankin Drew and his second wife, Lucille McVey. Sidney's sister, Georgiana Drew, was the mother of Ethel, Lionel and John Barrymore. Sidney and his first wife were the parents of S Rankin Drew. The Mr and Mrs Sidney Drew series was a success for Vitagraph, then Metro and then Paramount.

Last year we saw that Rankin Drew died in combat in World War One:

Last month, we saw that Sidney Drew died on 19-April-1919:

This gave rise to questions about what would happen to the Mr and Mrs Sidney Drew series.  They had completed five of the contracted seven.

"The Amateur Liar" was the first of three that had not yet been released.

Lucille was looking for scenarios for "two-reel comedies of the familiar Drew type..."

Moving Picture World, 17-May-1919
Producer Amedee Van Beuren said that actor Ernest Truex would appear with Lucille McVey.  Near as I can tell, it didn't happen.

I don't know if "Harold, the Last of the Saxons" still exists, but I hope it does.

Moving Picture World, 24-May-1919
Famous Players-Lasky announced it would release all seven Drew comedies called for in the contracts.

Moving Picture World, 31-May-1919
Lucille McVey planned to continue producing the Drew Comedies with Donald H MacBride "in a brotherly role."  She made about four more movies with John Cumberland.  I don't know anything about him.
