Producer, director, composer, writer and actress Ida Lupino was born 100 years ago today, on 04-February-1918.  She started working in British films when she was a teenager.  Paramount brought her to the US.

She played the female lead in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the second movie featuring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.

In High Sierra, she played Marie, the dancehall girl who loves the doomed Roy Earle, who was played by Humphrey Bogart.

Ida Lupino became a director when she got bored with sitting around the sets.

She did lots of work on television.  I remember her in an adaption of Carlton Morse's I Love a Mystery.
