100 years ago this month, Emmett Dalton, the only surviving member of the Dalton Gang made a personal appearance at an Arizona theater which was showing Beyond the Law, based on a book of the same name written by Dalton. The Dalton Gang, Emmett, his brothers Grat and Bob, and some other men robbed trains and banks in California, Kansas and Oklahoma. During a double bank robbery in Coffeyville, Kansas, Grat and Bob and other members of the gang were killed. Emmett was shot more than 20 times, but survived. Emmett served 14 years in prison before he was pardoned. After he was released, Emmett moved to California and worked in the film and real estate industries. Emmett played himself in Beyond the Law.
Emmett wrote another book about the gang which was made into a movie in 1941, When the Daltons Rode. Emmett died in 1937. Frank Albertson played Emmett.
