William S Hart was an experienced stage actor who was fascinated with the American west. He often played what became known as the Good-Bad Man. In The Cradle of Courage, as a change of pace, he played Square Kelly, a criminal who reformed and served in the army during World War One. After the war, he joined a big city police force. His former associates make trouble for him. Lambert Hillyer directed.
