The United States joined the First World War in April, 1917. Learning from the British, the United States put its propaganda efforts into the hands of one organization, the Committee on Public Information, also called the Creel Committee, after its chairman, George Creel. The Creel Committee produced the "U.S.A. Series," a series of two reelers.

French Pictorial Service produced a one-reeler about French troops marching back into the Alsace-Lorraine, a province that has passed back and forth between Germany and France more than once.

The first major battle fought by the AEF (American Expeditionary Force), elements of the US Army and the US Marine Corps, was the Battle of Chateau-Thierry, fought on 18-July-1918.
