Last month, we saw that 100 years ago a group of major Hollywood stars and the best-known director, Mary Pickford, William S Hart, Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin and DW Griffith, met and agreed to form United Artists. Hollywood production companies had been trying to pay them less money and the artists wanted to eliminate the middlemen:

100 years ago today, on 05-February-1918, they formally incorporated United Artists.
