Gilbert M Anderson, Broncho Billy, was the first western star. With George K Spoor, he had founded Essanay (S and A). In 1918, Essanay began rereleasing his one-reel westerns.
It is interesting that Essanay used the term "Screen Gems!" to promoted the "revivified" movies. Screen Gems was a name used by Columbia Pictures, first for its animation studio, and then for its television subsidiary.
