Giovanni Pastrone's Italian feature Cabiria was a popular spectacle which influenced filmmakers all over the world, including DW Griffith. It was set during the Second Punic War. The manager of the Palace Theater in Waterloo, Iowa submitted to the editors of Motography a program he distributed while the movie played at his theater.
