San Francisco author Kathryn Forbes published
Mama's Bank Account, a novel based on her Norwegian-American family, in 1943. In 1944, John Van Druten adapted it into a play,
I Remember Mama. Irene Dunne played Mama in a 1948 movie. The producers borrowed a real San Francisco cable car to lend atmosphere to the film.
