Journalist, author and screenwriter Ring Lardner, Jr was born 100 years ago today, on 19-August-1915.

In 1947, he appeared before the House Un-American Activities Committee with the rest of the Hollywood Ten. Lardner refused to answer questions and went to prison for contempt of Congress.

After prison, he wrote a novel and worked in Britain. He wrote using a front until he got a credit for The Cincinnati Kid in 1965.
