Actress Suzanne Somers died after a long fight with breast cancer. We watched Three's Company during the first couple of seasons. She was born in San Bruno. She went to Lone Mountain College for a while. I remember her promoting unusual health products.

I was sorry to hear that Canadian actress Margot Kidder has died.  She was good as Lois Lane in the Superman movies and in The Great Waldo Pepper. After a series of health problems, she died far too young in 2018.

Beautiful and troubled actress Linda Darnell was born 100 years ago today, on 16-October-1923. She spent most of her career under contract with 20th Century-Fox, but Fox had trouble finding suitable roles for her.

She appeared in several movies with Tyrone Power Jr, including The Mark of Zorro and Blood and Sand.

Forever Amber should have been Darnell's big break, but the critics didn't like it. The book was considered smutty by some and the Legion of Decency condemned it. She fought with director Otto Preminger.

Santa Cruz News, 01-October-1923

"Discovered -- The New Tom Mix." Soft Boiled looks like fun. Tom Mix played a nerd. I like his glasses. The film may still survive. The leading lady was Billie Dove. John G Blystone directed.

Santa Cruz News, 01-October-1923

When Tom whistled at his dog Duke, Duke, not recognizing Tom in glasses, growled at him.
