I love the old movie theaters! They were all so unique. Unfortunately, very few stand where I live and the ones that do are sitting empty and falling apart.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15396689737585318913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7783521748442862584.post-627081937708830062016-08-13T23:03:15.070-07:002016-08-13T23:03:15.070-07:00Hi Lé. I'm sorry your great-grandfather's theater got converted to a gym; at least it still exists. I'm going a little slowly, but I'm looking forward to your entry. I especially liked to learn about the Duplex, the Chaplin advertising scheme and the color switching in the marquee according to the star of the film.
My great-grandfather was a movie theater manager back in the 1940s and 50s. The theater he used to work in existed until a few years ago (I've been there a few times), but it is now a gym.
Don't forget to read my contribution to the blogathon! :)
Cheers!
LeLêhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02419693749682458647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7783521748442862584.post-78137262442334194532016-08-06T19:56:01.562-07:002016-08-06T19:56:01.562-07:00Hi Caftan Woman. It is funny how quickly the theaters matured. They must have been a lot more fun to visit than multiplexes, especially when the managers were staging contests and driving cutouts of Charlie Chaplin around town. I was familiar with nickelodeons, but was not aware that so many good-sized theaters had been made so early. Theater managers certainly sounded ingenious! It makes going to a multi-plex feel so sterile and impersonal in comparison.

I really enjoyed the clip of the fotoplay, too!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7783521748442862584.post-61535073348531671232016-08-06T12:02:55.659-07:002016-08-06T12:02:55.659-07:00Really interesting history. With outdoor screenings becoming popular summertime traditions, it seems to be back again. It appears the current cultivating of mommies and babies is not new. But then, nothing is, is it?Caftan Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05936895555808823221noreply@blogger.com
